Java Programming Examples: In addition to PHP programming, I've also done a lot of Java programming in my career. While it's a very small piece of the overall Java programming language, one of the topics I've written about has been the Java enum syntax, including my Java enum examples and tutorials on the devdaily.com website.

The basic Java enum syntax is simple, you declare a Java enum like this:

Iron Dog race GPS tracking website

Iron Dog GPS tracking: As a quick critique of the Iron Dog race GPS tracking website, I don't know if that site is broken, or just extremely hard to make sense of.

When I first go to their GPS website, it displays a map of the entire Earth, with a cluster of circles shown in Alaska. Um, okay, I knew the Iron Dog race was in Alaska, thanks. That's Strike One.

2011 Alaska Iron Dog race update

Feb
23

As I've written about on my One Man's Alaska website, the lead 2011 Iron Dog racers have reached Nome, Alaska, and after some rest they'll turn around and head to Fairbanks, Alaska for the final leg of the trip.

For me, being new to Alaska, this line was one of the funniest things I've read in a while:

"The lead pack of racers in the Iron Dog snowmachine are sticking together like the duct tape they put on their faces to fend off frostbite."

As a computer programmer living in Alaska, I thought I'd take a few minutes to look at computer programming jobs in Alaska. Sadly, I just searched the CareerBuilder and DICE websites, and there are no computer programming jobs advertised in Alaska at this time.

Unix and Linux commands - Examples and tutorials

I've been lucky enough to have used Unix operating systems since 1990, and Linux since the late 1990s, so along the way I've taught dozens -- possibly hundreds -- of students how to use Linux and Unix. As a result of this experience I've written a large number of Unix and Linux tutorials, and I thought I'd share some of those here, as well as links to other Linux resources.

The index page for my Unix and Linux tutorials links to most of the other tutorials, so I'll start with that link:

My gallbladder and gallstones diet advice

Feb

This post is way off my normal topic of programming and website design, but for anyone who knows me, you know that I had a problem with my gallbladder last summer, and eventually had my gallbladder removed. As I was trying to live with gallstones I wrote this article on my gallbladder/gallstones diet advice, and to my surprise, that article has been one of the most important things I've ever written on any website.

Over the years I've done a lot of Java programming, including Java database programming, and I've tried to document a lot of what I've learned about database programming.

A very long time ago I wrote these generic Java database programming tutorials:

I forgot that about a year ago I created some vi editor (vim editor) video tutorials. I was just reminded about them when someone posted a comment about one of them.

My favorite websites in Alaska

Feb

Yesterday I started a list of the best Alaska website designs, and today I thought I'd start a different list of my favorite Alaska websites. These websites aren't necessarily the best designs, but are my "favorites" for other reasons, as I'll describe below.
